Nursery
Welcome to Hugh Gaitskell Nursery
Autumn Art
Children have been exploring autumn in Nursery and used paint to show what is happening to the leaves at the moment. Take a look at their creations!
Dear Parents/Carers, You must wear a mask when you enter the school grounds to drop off/collect your child from nursery.
Please also make sure that you maintain a 2 metre distance from other parents & pupils.
Thank you.
Our Nursery children have been taking care of their very own hungry caterpillars.
On Wednesday and Thursday Nursery Parents attended a Zoom meeting to find out about what we do.

A message to parents
Starting nursery is a new and exciting experience. We aim to make the process as smooth and as positive as possible. Normally we would be inviting families into school to a welcome meeting and others stay and playdates for parents and children to visit.
You will appreciate that due to the current Coronavirus situation we are not able to proceed as we normally do.
Please be reassured that we will try to put something in place as soon as the government guidelines say it is safe to do so.

Sparrow Class
Hugh Gaitskell Primary School Nursery is based in the main school building and provides excellent educational experiences for three and four year olds.
With a purpose-built outdoor area and spacious, purposeful provision indoors, the setting is well resourced and equipped for the individual needs of all children.
The premises are designed to cater for young children’s needs with features that actively encourage the development of personal skills. Because we believe children learn best through play, all resources are freely available at child height, encouraging independent play and self-choice.
HGPS Library Bus
The location, within school grounds, also allows the nursery children to access the fabulous school library bus as much as possible. This encourages the children to experience a wide range of books and teaches them the enjoyment that reading offers.
Outdoor provision
Children benefit from daily access to outdoor play in the colourful and inviting play area. Outdoor play is available for all children on the soft safety surface complete with climbing frames and play apparatus. Play areas have been created to offer little one's challenges and fun, they include a sandpit, mud kitchen, bike area, ‘hobbit house’ and a covered area surfaced with artificial grass.
Snacks and lunches
If you have chosen full day provision for your child, there are two options for lunches. Our on-site qualified cook provides delicious, nutritious, well-balanced meals on a 4 weekly rolling menu. The team are more than able to cater for children who have specific allergies. We have a bespoke dining area where children can enjoy their meals and also can learn appropriate social skills. Of course, parents are more than welcome to provide a healthy packed lunch, should they choose to do so.
Staffing
Staff interaction with children is very important and we have staffed beyond the requirements of the EYFS statutory requirements so that all children can benefit.
Our nursery staff team:
Mrs T Glass/Mrs K Brewer - Nursery Teachers
Mrs C Thompson - Nursery Nurse
Miss D Smith - Nursery Assistant
