Christmas Carols @ DePuy Synthes
The School Choir, led by the wonderful Mrs. Rivers, brought joy and festive cheer to our dear senior citizens during a special concert organized by DePuy Synthes and the invaluable Kerry Seymour.
With beautiful harmonies and heartfelt performances, the choir created a warm and uplifting atmosphere, making the event truly memorable. The children's enthusiasm and talent were evident as they shared their music, spreading happiness and creating a lovely connection with the senior guests. It was a heartwarming occasion, and we are so proud of the choir for their outstanding performance and kindness in bringing smiles to so many faces. DePuy organised a fantastic, delicious Christmas dinner and as a thank you to our wonderful performers, each child received a gift from Santa! We will never forget that day!
Legally Blonde Performance at Cockburn School
The Year 5 children had an unforgettable experience when they attended the Legally Blonde performance at Cockburn School. The show was a hit with the class, with the students captivated by the vibrant costumes, energetic performances, and catchy songs.
The humour, heart, and high energy of the musical had everyone engaged from start to finish. The students loved seeing the characters come to life on stage and were inspired by the story of determination and self-confidence.
It was a fantastic opportunity to experience live theatre, and the entire class left buzzing with excitement, talking about their favourite moments. Overall, it was a memorable outing that sparked creativity and joy for everyone involved.
Art Project- The importance of supporting each other!
We have been busy working on an art project to depict the importance of supporting each other! We also wanted to incorporate our school strapline of 'I am powerful, I am strong!' Watch this space for the finished masterpiece!
Empowerment Art
Working alongside our resident artist, Year 5 children produced some bold and emotive artwork on the theme of empowerment.
Year 5 Christmas Card Art
Children have developed plenty of new art skills during this year’s Christmas card-making endeavour! Learning continues right up to the very last day of term!
Author Visit - Hannah Durkan
This week everyone is talking about Zeina Starborn and the Sky Whale by the fantastic author Hannah Durkan! We were so inspired by her assemblies and book signing. We can’t wait to write our own science fiction stories!
STEM Club
In Year 5 STEM club, we made electrical circuits and then used the spinners to create patterns. Listen out for the ‘lightbulb moment’ and one very proud exclamation in the background!
Inspirational People
In computing, we used the website Word Art to create word clouds around tolerance. We thought these might look nice alongside the handwritten poems. Take a look at the children's amazing creations.
Inspirational People
Year 5 have been learning from inspirational people! Look at their powerful poems about tolerance, understanding and respect. #BritishValues #SMSC
HGPS Newsroom
During our Year 5 HGPS Newsroom, we discussed the decision by 40 UK food companies to stop sourcing products from Brazil. This decision was made because of the potential introduction of a new law. This law would lead to further deforestation of the rainforests. Our children were able to speak eloquently and passionately about this subject.
The Titanic
Year 5 really enjoyed learning about the Titanic. We explored what life would have been like on this amazing vessel and how it tragically sank. Our children were so amazed by its sheer size and beauty, that they had no problems creating adverts for the magnificent ship. Take a look at one below.
Voices For Justice
In November we launched a project called Voices for Justice. Each class explored an element of British Values. In Year 5 we looked at Racism which links to the British Value 'mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, and for those without faith.'
As part of a task, children in Year 5 wrote an Agony Aunt style letter supporting someone who was experiencing bullying. Take a look at the fantastic writing that they did.
We then produced a very powerful video called 'Voices Against Racism'.
