World Book Day 2025

Today, children immersed themselves in the joy of reading by celebrating World Book Day. The school, known for nurturing inquisitive and imaginative learners, organised various activities to foster a love for literature.

Children arrived dressed as their favorite book characters, transforming the school into a vibrant tapestry of stories. From classic heroes to contemporary figures, the costumes reflected the diverse reading interests encouraged by the school's inclusive ethos.

Throughout the day, students participated in storytelling sessions, book-themed games, and interactive workshops. These activities not only celebrated their creativity but also deepened their appreciation for the written word. By engaging with literature in such dynamic ways, the children at Hugh Gaitskell Primary School continue to build a lifelong love for reading.

KS1 Christmas Card Art

Children have developed plenty of new art skills during this year’s Christmas card-making endeavour!  Learning continues right up to the very last day of term!

Kenyan Village

Year 1 have recreated the Kenyan village from one of their favourite stories ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’ by David Conway and Jude Daly.

Phonics club in Flamingo class

We learn phonics everywhere, even in the garden!

Pirate Day!

A successful pirate day in Year 1. Children started a new story, can you guess what it is about? They pretended to be pirates and looked for treasure on the school grounds using a treasure map. After finding all the golden coins we deciphered the secret code. Shiver my timbers - what fun we had!

Sidney Spider- a Tale of Friendship

In Year 1 we are reading Sidney Spider by Alison Cooper. We love the story so much that we made our very own spiders. Year 1 is now full of friendly Sidney Spiders!

We will soon be writing our own stories. Watch this space!

Lost!

In English this week, we have enjoyed reading the much-loved story 'Dogger' by Shirley Hughes.  The children were sad when Dogger was lost and could relate this to a time that they had lost something. So, being the helpful children they are, they created these wonderful lost posters. Dogger was soon found and returned to his rightful owner!
